In 1967, at the same time when Olympia introduced the lever-operated Cremina machine, the Moca grinder was created. As with the other machines, Olympia always strives to improve their products, so in 2002 and 2008 it was further improved. The Moca is a grinder, that works just as reliable and precise as the Cremina or the Maximatic.

Ever since, the Moca has been the perfect accompaniment to the Olympia Express espresso machines. Understated, but just as reliable, precise and built of the same premium materials—of course by hand. No synthetic materials, no plastic, which could possibly affect the espresso aroma. Only first class steel and genuine glass. Typically Swiss made. Its characteristics: an electric espresso grinder with extremely smooth running grinding burrs made of hardened special steel. It grinds quickly and continuously, without heating up the beans. By means of a dial, the grind can be accurately adjusted with immaculately precise steps of far less than 1/8 inch. The powerful 200-watt motor features a thermal overload protection. The body consists of high-gloss polished stainless steel to the front, and the side frames of resistant powder-coated steel. Four rubber feet assure a firm position on any kind of surface. The sealed Pyrex glass hopper can hold approximately nine ounces of espresso beans. A flip-top lid closes the high-gloss polished container for the ground coffee. The included spoon is used to dose and also to tamp the ground coffee For a perfect espresso a first class choice in coffee blend is needed as well as good water and an espresso grinder that produces perfect espresso powder—a machine that reliably and exactly delivers top results, just like the Moca from Olympia Express.

The Basics:

For a perfect espresso you need to select a first-class coffee blend, good water and an espresso grinder that produces perfect espresso powder—a precision-made machine that reliably delivers optimum results. However, the most important thing is the «Barista», the man using the machine. Only when all factors are combined in the best possible way is the result a truly exceptional espresso. It is the same as falling in love. Therefore, choosing a particular espresso machine or grinder is not a decision made solely made with the mind – you also have to be in love with it.

The Moca grinds fresh powder into the portafilter. The grinder is reliable, precise and built with premium materials mostly by hand, only first-class steel, aluminium and genuine glass. Typical Swiss design and Swiss made quality. The grinder is the ideal match for Cremina and Maximatic espresso machines.

Key features:

electric espresso grinder with smooth running 2.52 (64mm) in grinding burrs made from special hardened steel. It grinds fresh coffee directly into the portafilter without heating up the beans. By using a dial, the degree of grinding can be precisely regulated as required. The powerful 300-watt motor ensures an even grinding result. Its body features mirror-finished stainless steel in the front, and the side frames are made from especially resistant powder-coated steel. Four rubber feet assure a firm position on any kind of surface. The sealed hopper made from premium glass can hold about seven ounces of coffee beans.

Never thought I'd own a grinder like this Moca, but

now that I've dialed it in, perfect grind each time. I had a little trouble with some beans the supplier cautioned were a bit oily, and the Moca stalled on the first double with grinds not making it through. Johnny came to the rescue on the phone, even a day before Thanksgiving, advising to run some rice through. The grind adjuster requiring the allen wrench is quaint, but now I understand it's need for precision.

The mechanism, the materials and the build is just like their high end Swiss watches. I treated myself. Now that I have done a couple weeks worth of daily doubles, more happy with the choice.

    I’ve owned a number of

I’ve owned a number of good grinders, but the Moca really tops them all, by a lot! So simple, and elegant. Out of the box, without touching the grind adjustment, pulled a good shot. Just a tiny turn, and I was dialed in. Build quality is awesome as usual. If you own a Cremina or Maximatic, just get the Moca to match. It really is a good value all things considered.

    I was skeptical of this

I was skeptical of this grinder because it's not frequently discussed in the hobbyist community and there are few online reviews. But now that I own it, the concerns are gone. In grind quality and taste in the cup, it equals any of the top end grinders I've owned up to now. It also oozes luxury with solid metal construction and thick glass hopper with heavy aluminum lid. When you lift it, fill it, or use it, the Moca delivers the same kind of tactile satisfaction that Cremina does. It isn't just something that makes good coffee; it makes you feel good about making good coffee, and it's hard to put a price on that.

    Having several high end grinders

Having several high end grinders the Cerini Mocha Grinder compares equally to my $5,000 bringer when it comes to espresso. You can’t buy a superior grinder for espresso, it’s a great match to Cerini’s Olympia Cremina Espresso Machine. If you are an espresso lover this is the grinder for you and it’s a bargain at its price.

    Just got my new grinder,

Just got my new grinder, it's beautiful and very functional. I have had two of the old style Moca grinders and they are also nice but I can see that this one is better. I did read the manual first but set up is very intuitive. This grinder doesn't have a container to hold previously ground beans so it forces you to do a fresh grind with each cup but that's ok. Also the grind was set perfectly right of the box I didn't have to adjust it at all. With my prior Moca grinder I was always tinkering a little with the grind and it was more difficult to dial in.
